When looking through Activity Monitor, I’m expecting to see my own processes in addition to some owned by “root” and other more exotic users (_windowserver, _coreaudiod, …).
But I see processes owned by the other users on my Mac (Mavericks). In addition to my own account, I also have two other user accounts. I set up the two accounts at different times trying (and failing) to get Time Machine to move smoothly while upgrading. But, that is another discussion.
My question now is the following. The processes owned by the two other users are, specifically: xpcd, launchd, distnoted, cfprefsd, and com.apple.IconServicesAgent. This last one, in particular, tends to grow with time.
I’m curious about what is happening. Has OS X always been running jobs by the other users (holding user accounts, that is) before Mavericks, and I just wasn’t paying attention? Is there something wrong with my installation?
