I observe regularly occurring User processes (User Process = 1) connecting from load-balanced application servers to a database server (see Environment Details below) on the same internal network, where the Login associated with the process (session) is blank (see Figure 1).
Right-clicking on any of these rows to obtain Details of the process produces no result (i.e. no Details window [see Figure 2]).
So far, I have:
- Performed a Profiler trace: blank login process not captured by trace
- Read Kendra Little’s post “Why I Don’t Use SQL Server’s Activity Monitor“
- Used Adam Machanic’s “sp_WhoIsActive“, and the blank login process is not included in the results.
Questions
- How do I identify the Login for this process?
- How do I identify the command for this process?
- Is the Host Name reported by Activity Monitor incorrect/misleading?
